RBI raises key rate,reserve requirement
A day after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) hiked its short-term lending rate and the minimum cash balance commercial banks have to maintain, Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said the steps were necessary to contain inflation that has scaled a 13-year high.
"These steps are necessary in the face of rising inflation due to relentless increase in crude oil prices," Chidambaram said in a statement, as India's annual rate of inflation peaked to over 11 percent in recent weeks.

Nokia to acquire Symbian
Nokia today announced it has launched a cash offer to acquire all of the shares of Symbian Limited that Nokia does not already own, at a price of EUR 3.647 per share. The net cash outlay from Nokia to purchase the approximately 52% of Symbian Limited shares it does not already own will be approximately EUR 264 million.
Pakistan raises Kashmir issues again, shows support for terrorism
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday said his government is committed to supporting the just struggle of Kashmiris and is determined to seek a peaceful solution of the issue in keeping with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
"We will continue to extend political, diplomatic and moral support to the cause of Kashmir until a just and honourable settlement of Kashmir is reached as per the wishes of the Kashmiri people", he said in a meeting with APHC delegation led by Mirwaiz Omar Farooq here.
Lollipops of Sikkim
‘Himal’ Self Help Group of Bouchen, East Sikkim has been making their presence felt as it brings lollipops and pedas to the market. The 15 all-male member group from Bouchen village got together in May 2003 with the initiative of Sikkim Rural Development Agency and they started contributing Rs 30/- per month. The village in a rocky hill side has difficulties growing crops but all the 100 households have cows. This set them thinking as they had ample milk in the area but no place to sell.
